Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) from the local community visited Bridgwater College recently to meet students, who are studying the Level 2 in Public and Emergency Services, to run a variety of activities that aimed to give the group some experience of life in the service.

Activities included learning how to stop and search a suspect. The group were given real life scenarios and shown how to approach and deal with the issue.  They were also given the opportunity to experience the use of specialist equipment and clothing.

Jo Farrow, PCSO for Parkway thinks,

“The opportunity to visit those interested in a career in the services is a vital part of their education to develop the future of our next police officers. It is a partnership that we are looking to continue in the future to give the best opportunity to these inspiring students.”

Paul Grant, a student that took part in the activities commented on the day,

“A very enjoyable lesson, one of my favourites so far! It’s given me more inspiration to join the police force.”

Tyne Govier, Course leader for Level 2 Public and Emergency Services commented on the activity as,

“An invaluable resource for aspiring young students looking to work in the public service industry. The face to face contact with professionals in this industry will give them advice and guidance to meet the demands of the police community support officer role.”
