With a strong side named, the feeling was that Team BC’s mixed team could put in a positive performance and reach the next stage of the cup against South Dartmoor College, a side that was expected to present a decent challenge. 

The first half was an open affair, with chances falling to Jade Barry and Millie Burridge from short corners and Liam Pigden and Will Osmand from open play, but a lack of good fortune and clinical instinct meant Team BC could not score that vital first goal.

A quick break from South Dartmoor, lead to their first goal of the afternoon, with a two on one against keeper Bayley Chatwin that he could do nothing about, leaving one of the South Dartmoor girls to push the ball in to an open goal.

Despite being one down at half time, Team BC were still in with a good chance of getting back on level terms and pushing for a win or taking the game to penalties. South Dartmoor started the second half much brighter, and Team BC were indebted to some good keeping from Chatwin and solid defence from Pigden, Will Lawton, Kat Male and Ella Beauchamp who all made vital tackles.

Ten minutes in to the second half, Team BC were unfortunate to concede a penalty flick, which was calmly put away by one of the South Dartmoor boys and giving the away side the 2 – 0 lead. Team BC kept battling, but couldn’t create enough clear cut chances to find the important goal that would have put them on the front foot.

Team BC Hockey Coach Rob Morrish said,

“I feel for the players this  week. We had a strong side out and were equal with South Dartmoor for large periods of the game but the story of our season is we just haven’t created enough chances and when we have, we just lack that clinical edge. I am confident that we can bounce back and with a bit more fortune the goals will start flowing.”
