Bridgwater College’s Cannington Centre recently held two events at the Dog Grooming Salon.

A skills weekend was held for Dog Grooming students with 2000’s British Dog Groomer of the Year Melanie Winters-Holmes, who has over 25 years’ grooming experience and is a verifier for the City and Guilds Level 2 and Level 3 courses that are run by the College. The event, the first of its kind to be held at the College, was so successful that Melanie is hosting another workshop later in the year.

Melanie said,

“I had a great two days, it was a lot of fun. A number of the students said they had taken away new skills and ideas.”

Stella Joyner, Bridgwater College Programme Manager said,

“It was a pleasure to watch Melanie demonstrating her trimming expertise and handling techniques.”

The second event allowed students to gain first aid skills for dogs. The training day was offered to both Level 2 and Level 3 students to assist them with the written assessment work that is involved with their City and Guilds course syllabus.

This training event was presented by Claire House, a former Bridgwater College student and veterinary nurse with four years’ experience. Claire combined theory based tutorial sessions with a practical lesson, where students tried out their own bandaging and resuscitation techniques on some cuddly canines!
