Bridgwater College recently hosted their annual Fashion Show, which was the most ambitious yet with students across College showcasing their creations, dance pieces and hair and make-up skills.

Luxury fashion company, Mulberry, judged this year’s Fashion Show. After viewing the impressive variety of garments being showcased at this year’s show, Jennifer Hollidge, Production Training Co-ordinator at Mulberry, announced Karen Adams as Best in Show for her tailored suit, due to its ‘high level of practical skill, sophistication and wear-ability’. Karen also entered her creation, which was produced using cloth provided by Fox Brothers of Somerset, in to this year’s Golden Shear Awards, a national tailoring competition by Saville Row Bespoke.

Karen, who is a former student of Heathfield Community School in Taunton, and currently studying the Level 3 Diploma in Art, Design and Media at Bridgwater College said,

“Being Best in Show was a real privilege. It was great to be judged by someone in industry, especially a company as prestigious as Mulberry. My experience at the Golden Shears prepared me well also.”

The fashion was accompanied by two creative dance showcases by the BTEC Dance students and imaginative sections from Media Make-up, Hair and Barbering.

The event was the culmination of months of hard work by students. Beth Turner, a Commercial Fashion student at the College, helped organise the event and coordinated models on the night. She commented,

“It was amazing to be part of this event. It’s live and exciting, exactly like industry.”

The entire event was filmed and photographed by Foundation Degree Media Production students. April Bishop said,

“The Fashion Show is a great opportunity to work on a live event. I hope to be a fashion photographer one day, so this was a great opportunity.”
