For the first time since 2010 Bridgwater College were represented in the Golf Intercollegiate Tour Players Championship by Jack Dray. The Championship is aimed at 16 to 18 year old college students from across the nation.

To get to the finals Jack had to play in five qualifying rounds throughout the winter months. The main challenge for him was having to compete on his own, whereas other colleges had more than one player in their teams. This made Jack’s effort outstanding and demonstrates his commitment.

His scores of 79, 77 and 84 in this fifty four hole tournament where he finished tied fifty first, did not reflect the way he played. In the third and final round he drove the 340 yard par 4 first hole to secure a birdie, conditions in the third round were tough with a gale blowing out to sea and the scores returned reflected this.

A high point for Jack was a visit from Scott Laird in the first round; Scott is a first team Preston North End football player. A former Bridgwater College student, Scott took a break from his training to support Jack.

Team BC Golf Director, Ron Macrow said,

“This was a great performance from Jack, due to the fact he had to get here through five qualifying rounds virtually on his own and to come up to St. Anne’s in a tournament of this size and perform like he has done this week is a credit to him. His score does not reveal how well he played.”
