Pupils from secondary schools in Bridgwater, attended Bridgwater College recently to take part in an annual Languages activity day that taught the group about the culture and language of countries from around the world.
The group of 60 students from Robert Blake, Bridgwater College Academy, Haygrove, and Chilton Trinity schools in Bridgwater enjoyed a whole day at the College, taking part in activities to introduce them to the languages and cultures of six different countries from around the world.
Students learnt how to count in Russian and Chinese, introduce themselves in Polish, dance a traditional Basque dance, and get around in Germany. The finale of the day was to learn about Moroccan culture with College students and staff who took part in the trip to Morocco as part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
A student from Bridgwater College Academy said,
“I liked learning languages that I wouldn’t usually have learnt.”
Another added,
“I liked the variety of the languages and the usefulness of what we were taught. I also enjoyed working with others and meeting new people.”
Irena Hubble-Brezowski, Programme Manager for French at Bridgwater College, said,
“It is a great opportunity for us to meet these students and offer experiences that they wouldn’t usually get. Many of the students said they would like more chances to meet up for joint language activities during the year so we look forward to hosting and meeting them again next year.”
