Cannington Equestrian Centre is welcoming the local community to visit their facilities and encourage people to give horse riding a go as part of an exciting new campaign called ‘This Girl Can Ride’.
The campaign includes the first national ‘Give Horses a Go Day’, which will give people, both male and female, the chance to get closer to horses and try riding for free, with a unique taster session on Sunday 20 September 2015.
Cannington Equestrian Centre is one of more than 50 approved riding schools taking part in the campaign, offering free sessions for beginners. Visitors don’t need lots of expensive kit, just sensible trousers and a pair of boots or shoes with a small heel. British Equestrian Federation’s (BEF) Hoof website www.hoofride.co.uk, contains tips on what to wear and what to expect.
Although linked with the Sport England ‘This Girl Can’ campaign which aims to get women aged 26+ to try something horsey, people of all ages and genders are welcome to attend the Give Horses a Go Day. And if you’ve ridden before, but had to stop, now might be the time to get back into the saddle and pick up the reins again. The Give Horses a Go days are open to returning riders as well.
Speaking for the BEF, Head of Participation Anna Hall said,
“Sport England is doing a great job in encouraging women to take part in physical exercise, and as part of the riding community we have an important role to play. Some exercise improves fitness, some relieves stress, some gets you out in the open air – but we believe that horse riding delivers all that and more!”
The sessions at Cannington Equestrian Centre run through the day from 10am – 2pm and will include pony rides, horse riding, meeting the Centre’s horses, grooming and handling. Avon and Somerset’s rural crime team will be providing free tack marking, plus there will be a raffle and much more! What is more, the first riders who get the bug and book a riding lesson as a result of the day will be able to take home a pair of riding jodhpurs for FREE.
