Bridgwater College’s Cannington Equestrian Centre recently held a successful Give Horses a Go day, in association with Sport England ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, which saw over 230 visitors attend and take part in riding tasters, meeting the horses and raising money for Cancer Research UK.
The Centre held over 66 free riding tasters, introduced visitors to the horses who are stabled there and held a tack sale and raffle, which raised over £160 for Cancer Research UK. External organisations such as British Horse Society (BHS), Avon and Somerset’s rural crime team and Countrywide also attended to give attendees additional information on equine-related topics.
The day aimed to give people, both male and female, the chance to get closer to horses and try riding for free, with a unique taster session.
Josh Vickery, who attended with his two young sons Arthur and Henry said,
“It was a great day, my son got a chance to ride a pony, which he’s never done before. It was a fantastic experience for him.”
Hatti Troake, Cannington Equestrian Centre Yard Manager,
“We had a huge turnout and it was great to see so many people enjoying the horses and giving horse riding a go. It was a fantastic way to promote equestrianism as a sport to the local community, and to show how easy it is to get in to horse riding, and what we can offer them at Bridgwater College’s Cannington Equestrian Centre.”
