Former Bridgwater College students Joe Syvret and Kye Whelan who studied Level 2 & 3 Coaching Football in Community Settings have just returned from coaching with Challenger Sports in Kansas and Rhode Island in the America respectively.

Jamie Laird, Level 2 Course Leader said,

“This shows what great opportunities and doors you can open once you have completed a Level 2 and 3 coaching football course at Bridgwater College. For Kye and Joe to have had the chance to be in a paid role and coach football in America is fantastic and a great experience for anyone aspiring to do the same. We have had a number of other students who now have careers in America as a result of the course.”

Joe Syvret, of Bridgwater said,

“I spent seven weeks on the east coast of America. I flew out on the 4th of July into Warwick airport, Rhode Island and spent my first two weeks in Stamford, Connecticut.

“I found the overall experience incredible, the camps were very enjoyable and the kids loved having us there, all the families I stayed with were very welcoming and friendly. I'm hoping to head back in the spring, where I'll be coaching at a local club and once the summer starts will be coaching at the summer camps. I'll be in America for a total of 6 months. My coaching football course was a great help and has supported me get where I am today. It helped me gain confidence which helped and supported me when coaching and provided me with knowledge of how to coaching different ages and abilities of children.”

Kye Whelan, of Mark said,

“My experience in America was definitely an experience to remember. I started off my journey in Kansas, where I instantly felt like I was in my comfort zone and travelled down to Dallas from there. I was also lucky enough to travel to many places like Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Louisiana and west Texas in the 12 weeks that I was out there.

“Bridgwater College changed me as a person as well as a coach. My tutors and coaches helped me gain confidence in myself to take such a big leap into the coaching world. They helped me become the coach I am today. I was also playing College football which meant I could also take my technical ability over to America which also meant if there was any skills the players wanted to learn or were struggling I could help. America if definitely a place where I want to go back to in the future.”
