Men’s Football Team BC Elite South played away to Richard Huish College and put in a brave, battling performance which resulted in a deserved 4 – 2 win.

Team BC started very strongly and maintained possession for long periods in the first half, BC always looked threatening going forward. The attacking threat of Harry Fitchew and Danny Mahoney up front, created numerous opportunities and within eight minutes, Team BC took a 1 – 0 lead with a fantastic turn and strike from 25 yards by Fitchew.

This spurred the team to keep the momentum and they were rewarded again through another Fitchew goal on the 15 minute mark. This time placement rather than power gave the Richard Huish Goalkeeper no chance.

Rhys Hayward and Kye Whelan were excellent with their technical play, creating some great passes which put the Huish defence under a severe amount of pressure as Team BC piled. The away side got their reward with Nash Eastwood elegantly placing his angled shot into the corner of the Huish net to give Team BC a 3 – 0 lead.

After the third Team BC goal, Huish started to chase the game and Team BC became too relaxed with their play, the game then swung in the favour of Huish. A shot from 20 yards that would normally have been dealt with by Team BC Goalkeeper Ashton Granter, crept in off the crossbar to give the Richard Huish some hope of recovery. The Huish belief continued to show when a free kick was awarded to Huish and a good strike made it 3 – 2.

Team BC realised that a response was needed and started to play with the same intensity as they did in the first 15 minutes. The balance of possession started to swing back in their favour and this time, with five minutes to play in the first half, Team BC were awarded a free kick 30 yards from the Huish goal. A fantastic shot by Hayward gave the Huish Goalkeeper only something to admire as it travelled past him in to his goal, with Team BC going into half time with the 4 – 2 lead.

The second half was a much quieter affair as both teams were still competing hard, but few chances were being created. This continued throughout the half and the score ended 4 – 2 to Team BC.

Andy Gill, Team BC coach said,

“If the players can give this amount of fight and determination every week then we will be a very competitive side and also a side that wants to develop and play football the right way. Considering the results from recent weeks it was great to see a really determined and solid performance. The players are starting to believe in themselves and each other.”

Team BC Man of the Match was Tom Blackwell for a great performance in defence and epitomised the effort of all the players.
