Just a few days after being named the Screwfix Trade Apprentice of 2015, Bridgwater College student Nadia Connabeer has been shortlisted for yet another honour in the 2015 CITB Pride of Construction Awards.

The Awards, established in 2014 to mark the 50th anniversary of the CITB, celebrate the achievements of apprentices, employers and training providers, and aim to inspire the construction workforce of the future.

Shortlisted for the Industry Apprentice of the Year, Nadia will go head to head with two other nominees at the Awards ceremony being held at the Natural History Museum in London on 25 November. Prior to that, however, she has a hectic schedule to fulfil, including an three-week furniture industry placement in Holland as part of the College’s Erasmus+ mobility scheme, and an appearance on the Screwfix trade stand at this year’s Tory party conference in Manchester.

Speaking of her latest nomination Nadia, 21 and employed by Hayman Joinery in Ivybridge, Devon said,

“My employer has been incredibly supportive and it’s great that companies are making a point of promoting apprenticeships. The CITB have also been very helpful to me during my two-year apprenticeship, and I am especially delighted to be shortlisted for apprentice of the year in their Pride of Construction awards!”

Course Leader for Furniture at Bridgwater College, Steve Hopper added,

“Nadia is a superb ambassador for the College and for apprenticeships in general. She is not only highly intelligent, but also has a huge work ethic and the drive to succeed. Whatever the outcome of the Awards, she has a very bright future ahead of her.”
