Students studying Public Services at Bridgwater College were visited by three different uniformed public services personnel in the same week.

Three members of the Royal Marines met and took the students through their paces, delivering physical and practical tests, which by the end saw most of them exhausted! They all thoroughly enjoyed the experience with Ethan Davey saying, it was hard work but brilliant fun.

The Army recruitment team also visited the College and explained to the first year students the variety of roles available to them. Many of the students had no idea of the vast array of jobs within the Army and eagerly engaged the recruitment team, asking them a barrage of questions.

The College also welcomed employees from HMP Bristol, who spoke with students about their role and responsibilities within the prison service. This was the first time students had been visited by Prison Officers and the students were fully engaged in what they were hearing. Due to their participation and enthusiasm, they have now been invited to visit Bristol Prison to see first-hand, the Prison Officers at work.

All in all the students have really enjoyed the variety of experiences they have had this week and some are now already considering roles that they had not thought of before. Ruth Burrows said,

“Without the support of our colleagues in the public services offering their time and dedication, our students would not get the breadth of experiences being offered to them. I am so grateful to everyone who has given up their time as it means they are being able to consider a vast array of opportunities”
