More than 600 pupils from schools around Somerset and North Somerset became Bridgwater College students for a day recently when they took part in the College’s Taster Day.
Pupils from schools including Chilton Trinity in Bridgwater, Priory Community School in Weston-super-Mare, Crispin School in Street and Castle School in Taunton, chose from nearly 40 different subjects and 30 A Levels, and were immersed into College life for the day to find out what it is really like to be a student at Bridgwater College.
Throughout the day students were given a tour of the College facilities, met staff and students and took part in hands on activities such as, filming and editing a Taster Day film in Media Production, creating cuts and bruises in Media Make-up, testing our cars on the College’s Rolling road in Automotive, causing chemical reactions in A Level Chemistry and Animal Handling in the Animal Care taster, to name a few.
Jessica Bennett, Careers Advisor at Priory Community School in Weston-super-Mare said,
“The Taster Day gave more than fifty of our Year 11 students a fantastic opportunity to immerse themselves in college life and experience subjects that they are thinking of taking forward into further education. The students really enjoyed their day and, as well as having a real taste of college life, it motivated them in their current studies at school. They now have a tangible idea of where they are hoping to be this time next year and what college can offer. Thank you to the College for putting on such a valuable event for our students and giving them this excellent 'try before you apply' opportunity.”
Jenny Ashworth, Director of Academic Partnerships and Marketing at Bridgwater College added,
“Our Taster Days give Year 10 and 11 students the chance to get a feel for what life will be like when they take the step up to Further Education at Bridgwater College. We place great importance on these and it’s very pleasing to see the growing support for them from schools and teachers across the county as more students than ever before joined us for our November Taster Day.”
