Travelling with a small squad due to injuries and exams, Team BC’s mixed hockey team put in arguably their best performance of the season to date before the Christmas break.

The first half was end to end with keeper Emily Blake making a number of crucial saves to keep a first half clean sheet and frustrate the Cirencester forwards.

First half chances fell to Sean Hedaux, Ryan Maynard and Will Lawton but neither side could capitalise on their chances.

The first five minutes of the second half were Team BC’s own doing and seemed to start the second half, half-asleep and found themselves two down, both goals scored from open play.

The second goal kicked Team BC back to life and the rest of the game played out in a similar fashion to the first half with the defence working tirelessly, with Ella Beauchamp frustrating Cirencester players by tackling them throughout the match.

With five minutes to go on the clock, Team BC won a short corner and executed a perfect training ground manoeuvre, which saw Will Lawton crash the ball in to the goal and his first in Team BC colours.

With minutes left to go, Team BC continued to press forward, with Cirencester looking nervy, looking to preserve their lead. With 30 seconds left, the ball was crashed across the D, with Shannon Johnson throwing herself at the ball, missing her stick by inches and with that the final whistle was blown.

Coach Rob Morrish said after the game,

“This was by far their best performance of the season with a depleted squad they really showed what playing for and representing Team BC was all about (Togetherness, Pride, Respect).”
