The McMillan Theatre, Bridgwater, will be screening a National Theatre Live Encore production of A View from the Bridge, on Sunday 15 May, 7pm, in the authentic setting of a 350 seat theatre.
The National Theatre is one of the world’s leading theatre producers who stage up to 30 productions at their South Bank, London venue each year. The McMillan Theatre has previously screened three National Theatre Live performances, and the next broadcast is Arthur Miller’s tragic masterpiece, which won a trio of 2014 Olivier Awards including Best Revival, Best Actor for Mark Strong (The Imitation Game; Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) and Best Director for Ivo van Hove.
The play is based in Brooklyn, and follows the story of longshoreman Eddie Carbone who welcomes his Sicilian cousins to the land of freedom. But when one of them falls for his beautiful niece, they discover that freedom comes at a price. Eddie’s jealous mistrust exposes a deep, unspeakable secret – one that drives him to commit the ultimate betrayal.
The Guardian called it,
“A forceful production of visual brilliance.”
The following National Theatre Live Encore screening will be celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday with The Audience, on Sunday 12 June, 7pm. The award-winning production of Queen Elizabeth II’s weekly meetings with every Prime Minister for 60 years includes an exclusive Q&A with Helen Mirren and director Stephen Daldry.
