Bridgwater College recently hosted a training afternoon for 80 primary school children from Bridgwater College Academy.
The Level 3 Coaching Football in Community Settings students helped run the training afternoon by putting on eight different football and multisport sessions which included sports such as rounder’s, hockey and handball.
This provided the students a chance to coach in the community and give the practice and experience to plan, deliver and review sessions to help them towards their organising a sports event assignment.
One of our students Jack Marsh said,
“The day overall was really good as it challenged us as coaches to adapt our sessions quickly to make it work better in that situation. Coaching children this age developed us as coaches by giving us a better experience as this is who we will be coaching when we try to get employment after the course finishes.”
Jamie Laird, Level 2 Course Leader said,
“The students did an excellent job of leading and coaching the school children, along with developing their coaching skills in a real event. There was a great range of activities and fun games for the children to join in on.”
