The McMillan Theatre, Bridgwater, will be screening operas from Glyndebourne’s 2016 Festival this summer.

The first screening will be Rossini’s comedy Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) on Tuesday 21 June, 6.30pm. Directed by Annabel Arden with Rossini’s music, and conducted by Enrique Mazzola, this new production heralds the welcome return of a masterpiece not seen at Glyndebourne for 33 years. International star and Glyndebourne favourite Danielle de Niese stars as Rosina, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Glyndebourne Chorus. The performance is sung in Italian with English subtitles.

The second opera to be screened will be Berlioz’s Béatrice et Bénédict on Tuesday 9 August, 6.30pm. This witty love-hate duel takes the funniest elements from Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and is conducted by Robin Ticciati and directed by Laurent Pelly. With the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Glyndebourne Chorus, the opera is sung in French with English subtitles, and is part of the Shakespeare400 celebrations.
