Students studying Drama and Theatre Studies at Bridgwater & Taunton College were treated to a unique experience recently when they spent the day at the National Theatre in London with the cast and director of The Threepenny Opera.
As part of the day, students were given a lecture on Brechtian techniques by Professor David Barnett, and were later joined by Artistic Director of the National Theatre and Director of Threepenny Opera, Rufus Norris. The students found the day inspiring and being able to have a professional theatrical portrayal of their exam play text was invaluable.
One student, Floe Cashel, who studies A Level Drama at the College, was given the exciting opportunity to perform on stage at the National Theatre alongside the professional company. On reflection Floe said she found the experience ‘amazing and helpful to understand how professional actors follow direction’.
Rachel Williams, Course Leader in A Level Drama AT Bridgwater & Taunton College, praised the National Theatre for organising such an insightful and unique event,
“To see a professional company work through their rehearsal process was incredibly valuable in giving our students an insight into the industry and an in-depth knowledge onto Brechtian techniques as theatre makers.”
