Four Team BTC football scholars who study at the Bridgwater & Taunton College Bridgwater Centre, have received their county call ups to represent the Somerset FA U18 football squad.
Reece Malcolm, Kofi Martin, Jordan Lovibond and Keelan Gunningham all play for the colleges Team BTC elite football team who play in the ECFA south west colleges league and on Saturday's in the south west county youth league for the Team BTC and Bridgwater Town FC u18 partnership team, where both teams are unbeaten so far this season.
Jamie Laird, head coach for Team BTC said,
“We are very proud to have four players representing the Somerset FA squad this season and we have had other players who have played in the pre-season fixtures as well. This really does display the high quality players that we are producing and the player pathway we have in place via our u15 and u16 Development Centres in partnership with Bridgwater Town which allows students to study any subject of their choice and combine it with a Team BTC football scholarship.
“Progression can then be made into reserve team and first team football with Bridgwater Town which is really paying dividends and will continue to grow and become even better with the future developments and plans we have coming. This is why Reece has come from Yeovil to play and Jordan from Devon, as they receive top class coaching and an outstanding education.”
The players have had a winning start to their Somerset FA season with a one nil win over Cornwall FA where Martin headed in a cross from Gunningham to ensure a successful start in the south west county league competition.
