On Wednesday 5 October, Team BTC Netball played their first game of the season against SGS College. Both players and coaches were keen to play after a delay to the start of their season, so arrived full of enthusiasm and determination to win.
The team had to go out strong and adapt their game play in order to get the better of the opposition. Effective defence from Emily Rossiter (GD) and Tilly Millburn (GK) saw Team BTC force critical turnovers.
A tactical quarter from shooters Aerin Phillips (GS) and Siobhan (GA) saw them use their strengths and have a number of successful passes made into the circle, resulting in crucial goals. Team BTC finished the first quarter in the lead.
SGS College were determined to come out strong and pull back their result, but Team BTC continued to play well as a team, and didn’t let an assertive SGS team dictate their play.
Centre court players Chloe Trout (C) and Kirsty Richards (WD) brought the ball down centre court, opening up options for attacking players. Cerys Ethridge (WA) made some great drives into the attacking third, receiving the ball on the circle edge, meaning a quick pass could be made into the shooters. Team BTC continued to hold their lead.
A diverse Team BTC squad allowed coaches to make changes going into the final quarter, giving the team the fresh legs and great dynamics the team were after to extend their lead. Team BTC continued to play as a team, supporting each other and making sure they controlled the ball to eliminate basic errors. Team BTC won the game 37 – 27.
