Bridgwater & Taunton College Men’s Performance squad had a little setback in their league campaign with a 2 – 0 defeat at Keynsham. Team BTC started the game slowly, St Brendans keeping possession well but not really troubling debutant keeper Harrison Buller.

Team BTC started with a back 3 of Keelan Gunningham, Paul Grant (star man) and another debutant Kieran Ellis. All three coped well with the early pressure and Bridgwater & Taunton contained and then began to take control of the game.  

Midway through the half, Danny Mahoney made the keeper save two excellent chances after good work from Arthur Greedy and Jai Nevison down the left hand side. With a little more composure in front of goal Team BTC should have scored at least one of those chances.

Their inability to score cost Team BTC dearly a few minutes later when a direct run from a St Brendans forward found a gap in the defence and despite a good attempt from Harrison to stop the shot, went 1 – 0 down. The rain was torrential at this point and both teams were happy to hear the half time whistle.

Bridgwater & Taunton started the second half very brightly, despite the weather, and took control of the game. The central midfield three of Sam Sheldrake, Finn Giblin and Jai grabbed the initiative, while Liam Gilbert, playing wide on the left, had two glorious chances.

Mahoney made a great run down the right flank and pulled the ball back to Gilbert who missed the target. The same move, two minutes later and Gilbert forced a good save from their keeper. From a corner Gunningham rose above his marker to head the ball just over the crossbar. Niall Carr was troubling the St Brendan’s defenders with his good hold up play.

Team BTC were controlling the game now, but the St Brendan’s team always looked dangerous on the break. Scott Peters and Tom Lealand were introduced and Tom especially passed the ball with good pace and purpose. Bridgwater & Taunton continued to press forward and forced a number of corners without any success.

Late in the game St Brendan’s scored the second goal when their right side forward tricked his way past three defenders and slotted the ball into the net. Team BTC were disappointed to lose the game but did play well, just needing to be clinical in front of goal and a little more determined in defence.
