Students studying the Level 1 City & Guilds Diploma in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) at Bridgwater & Taunton College took to the kitchens recently to as part of their personal development unit.

The team were set the task to prepare potato and leek soup for lunch, as part of the unit that helps to develop the personal and interpersonal skills of the students. Kloe, Harry, Cristian, Blake and Dan spent the morning preparing vegetables and learning how to cook the soup before sharing it for lunch.

Although they were not all fans of the soup the group had a great time and are looking forward to more cooking time in the future. This continues the theme of self-reliance and life skills being learnt by the students alongside their Computing Diploma.

This year’s group are already engaged in various activities on their course, including a professional project involving the development of a website for the Barbering courses at Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Bridgwater Centre. The group have already met with Richard Bell, Course Leader for Barbering at the College, to find out what his requirements are. This has helped to develop the group’s communication skills and build their confidence.

Other projects on the course include preparing a home of the future; a technology enabled home where students are expected to make cables and prepare internet devices for the connections.
