Students who are studying Horse Management courses at Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Cannington Centre were given the opportunity to attend Aldon Horse Trials recently as part of their course.
The students worked on a rota throughout the day to provide arena support in the main show jumping ring, working alongside course builder Alan Denning to set up the fences. The group were able to watch top riders compete in dressage, show jumping and cross country phases of the competition, go on a cross country course walk with instructor Pepsi Kohler, network with potential employers and placement providers and carry out a bit of horsey shopping.
Student Annie Shepheard, who is studying the Level 3 Horse Management said,
“I really enjoyed the day, it has made me keen to pursue a career in event management. You don't realise how much thought and planning goes into these events until you see behind the scenes. It was also really interesting to walk the cross country course and watch famous people like William Fox-Pitt close up in the show jumping ring.”
