Specialist Arboriculture students at Bridgwater & Taunton College spent a week studying arboriculture on their international study tour in Holland.
Each year the second year students travel to Holland to see how trees and woodlands are managed in another country. The study tour included cycle tours of Rotterdam and Amsterdam’s trees with the city’s tree managers and tree consultants. They were also able to watch demonstrations of specialist equipment and take tours of internationally recognised tree nurseries.
Mike Cullen, Course Leader for Arboriculture at Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Cannington Centre explained,
“We’ve always maintained exceptionally strong links with industry here in the UK. Our annual study tour to Holland is a natural extension to link with, and work together with, colleges and the wider industry in mainland Europe. It’s a fantastic study tour in which students pick up new knowledge, forge their own networking links, develop personal social skills and of course visualise new career opportunities.”
Michaela Murphy, a second year Arboriculture student said,
“We had a really inspirational international study tour. We got to meet some incredibly passionate and dedicated tree workers. It made us really think about progressive, sustainable urban tree care.”
