On Wednesday 11 January, Team BTC Performance played away to St Brendan’s Sixth Form. Team BTC started the quarter well, with Pip Dickens (GD) and Rachel Rowlands (WD) making great interceptions and quickly advancing the ball up the court which led to them taking an early lead.

However St Brendan’s were able to catch up towards the end of the quarter due to Team BTC unforced errors. Team BTC maintained their great defence and lead at quarter time, 12 – 8.

The team came on in the second quarter determined to keep possession of the ball, as well as continuing to make countless turnovers. Great movement from Charlotte Pengelly (WA) and strong attacking play from Sophie Cornish (GS) and Jessie Woodberry (GA) meant that the team scored off most opportunities. St Brendan’s struggled to get through the team defence, and were only able to score 3 goals in that quarter, half time score was 21 – 12.

It was important that Team BTC remained focused to maximise opportunities to turn over the ball. The team continued to pressure St Brendan’s which forced them to make many mistakes, many of which were caused by the great defensive pressure from Maria Anghel (GK). A tactical swap of positions saw a versatile Team BTC run away with the game, and great shooting from Leah Davies (GS) helped to seal a 47 – 20 victory.

Pip Dickens, L3 Sport and Exercise Science student said:

“As a team, I think we all worked well together and played well using feedback we'd been given in training. We were all motivated to do well and none of us became down heartened throughout the match and having the statistics kept this motivation high. Overall, I found it a very enjoyable match.”
