2016 proved to be an outstanding year for Josh Smith and the Motorsport Team at Bridgwater & Taunton College, when they were crowned OSS Overall Champions at the BRSCC Awards Evening held at the Crowne Plaza, Stratford-upon-Avon.

The award was presented to the team by Peter Daly, BRSCC Director, at the prestigious event. It followed a 14 race season that was dominated by the team; the College’s race car, a Class C Radical PR6, topped the podium by winning ten races across infamous racetracks including Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Rockingham. Alongside this, driver and Course Leader for Motorsport at Bridgwater & Taunton College, Josh Smith, set three new lap records along the way.

The student led crew, who are studying, or have recently graduated from, the Foundation Degree in Motorsport Engineering at the College, oversee all aspects of the process, from car preparation, chassis set up and data logging to the running of the car on race day. Often also assisting other teams over the course of the weekend too.

On reflection of the season, Josh Smith said,

“We race in Class C of a multi class structure championship, so winning outright three times this year alongside our triple podium at Brands Hatch, including an outright win, was probably the main highlight of the season. It was an amazing effort by the whole team and an extremely proud moment, both as the driver, and Course Leader for the College team. We are busy preparing the car for the 2017 season and hope to retain our title, which kicks off at Silverstone on 27 and 28 May 2017.”
