Team BTC players took part in an action-packed four day football tour to Wales, as part of the partnership between Bridgwater & Taunton College and Taunton & District Schools FA (TDSFA) under 16s.
Starting in Bristol, TDSFA’s first opponents was Bristol Rovers academy. This thrilling encounter resulted in TDSFA just being edged out by their counterparts in the second half. The next stop was the Memorial Stadium where the under 16s and the coaching team watched a one-all draw between Bristol Rovers’ first team and Bradford City.
On the second day, they arrived in Wales to meet Pontardawe Town Academy who play in the Welsh Premier, South West Academy league. The game started at a frantic pace, leaving TDSFA playing catch-up. Once TDSFA found their feet, they scored a couple of goals to win a very close game against an excellent side.
The closing days of the tour finished with a tour of Swansea City FC Academy facilities and another fixture against Swansea Schools FA. It was a close encounter, but TDSFA’s Head Coach Mo Hopkins was impressed with the manner and style of play from his side. The final stop was a visit to Castell Howell Food LTD who helped fund the tour and new TDSFA kit.
Head Coach Mo Hopkins said,
‘’Along with Castell Howell, Bridgwater & Taunton College, Bristol Rovers, Swansea City, Bristol City, Pontardawe Town, Swansea Schools FA, we'd also like to thank Tesco, Premier Inn, Ray Macron Neath & Yallops for supporting us over the four days. It’s been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, which I’m sure will stay with the TDSFA players for many years.’’
