TEAM BTC Men’s Elite Football team ran out comfortable winners on Wednesday  29 March playing local rival Weston College. The afternoon was thought to be a difficult affair with the artificial pitch being very narrow, however, the away side looked as if they played on the pitch every week!

The game started in positive fashion for Team BTC who dominated the early exchanges, picking up the second ball between the home sides defence and midfield. Several shots made the Weston goalkeeper work. Weston could do nothing on 15 minutes when Reegan Scotcher, promoted from the Development squad pick out Ryan Brereton who scrambled the ball between two defenders to eventually lash the ball home for 1-0 at the near post.

Liam Kingston, recently called up to represent England Colleges vs. Wales Colleges, was called into action minutes later when a killer pass through the away side's defence enabled the Weston striker to run through on goal. Kingston was out quick to put pressure on the ball and deny any chance of a Weston equaliser.

25 minutes in, a Liam Winter free kick, deep from the right hand side hangs in the Weston penalty area before falling to Kole Hall to take two touches and smash the ball across goal and in off the far post, 2-0.

On 30 minutes Winter chests the ball down to Reegan before playing another ball over the top to send Brereton on goal to collect his second of the game!

With 20 minutes to play Niall Carr receives a throw in, rolls two Weston defenders, strikers the ball and hits the near post, rebounding into Scotcher’s path, allowing him to despatch the ball into the top corner, 4-0!

Weston did have some chances throughout the second half. Three headers were unchallenged in the away sides penalty area, one being excellently saved by Kingston and the other two sailing over the crossbar. Team BTC threw away their deserved clean sheet with a couple of minutes left to play following a Weston counter attack. Unfortunately the ball had left play in the build up to the goal which wasn’t seen by the officials.

Dan Wright said,

“The team were fantastic today. Absolutely brilliant to come to Weston and dominate the game on a tight pitch for the full 90 minutes. It wasn’t just a few that got the team the win but every player involved today was fantastic. We controlled the tempo of the game throughout. Our long throw-ins from Charlie White caused the Weston defence carnage with the likes of Brereton, Hucker and Winter picking up the second ball. At times we moved the ball with pace that left huge gaps within the Weston defence which made it really easy to exploit. I am thrilled for the team.”

Man of the match/Player of the week:

Reegan Scotcher – promoted from the development squad to start at right wing back, to get two assists and a goal is amazing. Terrific work ethic from start to finish not only in possession but solid in his defensive duties. A great performance from Reegan in his final year at college with only one or two fixtures left for him to play.
