Bridgwater & Taunton College student Millie Richards has won Gold in the Skillbuild UK cabinet making regional heat held in Southampton. This is a fantastic achievement for Millie as she is only in the first year of her Furniture Making course at the College.
Millie competed in a challenging skills test which required her to construct a complex traditional frame in just five hours, using only hand tools.
Millie, a former pupil at Chilton Trinity Technology College, is a very conscientious and dedicated student and hopes in the future to become a bespoke furniture maker. She said of the competition,
“SkillBuild UK was an excellent event to take part in because it gave me the opportunity to measure my ability. I was also able to watch and learn how other contestants used their knowledge during the event. I was shocked when I found out that I had won, I wasn't expecting it at all but what I learnt was trying your best can lead to surprises.”
