Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Catering & Hospitality team have ended the academic year on a high with several successful work placements and new industry partnerships leading to exciting opportunities for students.

The College has forged new links with several high profile names in the catering industry this year – including the two Michelin-starred Tom Kerridge’s Hand and Flowers, Hilton Bournemouth and the Brend Hotel group which has already offered full time positions to two students who have completed live-in work placements with them.

As a result of working with our first year students this year, The Luttrell Arms Hotel in Dunster is now offering apprenticeships in Catering & Hospitality in partnership with the College. We’re delighted to be working again with former student, Barry Tucker, who is currently the Executive Head Chef at the hotel.

Tyler Cox completed a successful work placement at Michael Caines at the Coach House at Kentisbury Grange, and as a result is in talks with the restaurant about securing a permanent position. Tyler has been fortunate enough to meet Michael, who is a Michelin star chef and regularly appears on television. 

Former Professional Cookery apprentice, Hannah Holleran, now works as a Commis Chef at Roux at Parliament Square in London. Whilst at College she took up a work placement there and was subsequently offered a full time role. Our first year students recently had the opportunity to visit Hannah, watch her work and see where a college catering course could take them.

New and returning students this September will reap the benefits of the significant expansion of the Quantock Restaurant and the major investment in state-of-the-art professional kitchen facilities that is being made by the College over the summer.
