The floristry department at Bridgwater & Taunton College recently had the honour of hosting the National Final of The SmithersOasisUK Floristry Competition.

Seven finalists from five different colleges spent the day producing a range of designs that were judged by the National Guild of Judges affiliated with The British Florist Association. First place went to Laura Anderson of Bridgwater & Taunton College, Second place to Ruth Connerton of Tyne Met College and Third place to Maureen Nation of Bridgwater & Taunton College.

Laura Anderson said, ‘I really wasn’t expecting to win but the final touches and guidance given by my tutors leading up to this competition stood me in good stead. I thought everyone did so well and I’m delighted that Maureen, a fellow student from the College had such a great result too.’

The competition which is organised by SmithersOasisUK, is a creative platform for colleges throughout the UK to compete against each other. Competitors travelled to Somerset to the Cannington campus for the final heat, with their supporters treated to a demonstration of floral products and a workshop whilst the judging was taking place.
