After three races in this season’s BRSCC OSS Excool Championship, Bridgwater College’s Motorsport Team has taken the lead in the race for the title.

Not only has the team, piloted by Motorsport Course Leader Josh Smith, taken a commanding lead in its class classification, but some smart driving (and a bit of fortune), has resulted in an overall lead in the Championship too, following podium finishes in all three races in the opening weekend of the Series.

The team won the final race of the opening weekend, but the last few laps involved some nervous glances to the pit wall, watching the gap to second spot close rapidly and mirrors fill with the sight of the second placed Juno driven by Jordan Sanders. One more lap and the team might not have made it to the chequered flag first.

But the team won out on this occasion.

No one is getting too excited – we have a wonderful Radical PR6, tuned and set-up by our excellent Motorsport students, but we have a very small budget and the team is up against teams with bigger engines, more horsepower, and significantly higher budgets.

But if the team can continue its good form and drive clever, we have every chance of taking the title if the car stays on the track.

So fingers crossed as the team prepares for the next races in the Series – a triple-header at the Rockingham Circuit over the weekend of 11 & 12 June. Keep your eyes peeled on our social media channels for updates and results.
