After a sad goodbye to our host families, we set off on the journey to New Orleans. Our first stop was Evergreen Plantation, the plantation with the most remaining buildings – 22.
We had a tour of the plantation house and grounds and then went further back into the grounds, walking the road the slaves would have walked on their way to and from their work on the fields and their quarters. It was a fascinating history and certainly made us all think about how lucky we are.
We then had a bit further to travel, driving over the amazing 24 mile Lake Pontchartrain bridge. But before our stopover destination, we stopped at the national park on the coast of Lake Pontchartrain, to walk on the beach, paddle in the water and watch the sun set.
