An evening of celebrations were in order on Thursday 29 November as Bridgwater & Taunton College held its annual Apprenticeship Awards Evening at The McMillan Theatre, to celebrate the achievements of apprentices and their employers.
UKHO, Sedgemoor District Council and ABP Food Group sponsored the event which was attended by 120 people. Fifteen awards were presented during the evening. Each of the following awards were categorised according to the curriculum area:
Apprentice Champion Award 2017: Sophie Hodson and Cassandra Walker
Apprentice of the Year Award 2017: Kiah Durham, Rachael Crichton, Melissa Teacy
Reaching your Potential Award 2017: Craig Lancaster, Henry May and Billy Dampier
James Satchell Award 2017: Daniel Cresswell
Outstanding Individual Learner Award (Festival of Learning) 2017: Julian Sula
All winners demonstrated extraordinary determination to develop their career whilst contributing to the success of their employer.
Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Employer of the Year was awarded to ABP Langport. This company works closely with Bridgwater & Taunton College to deliver a bespoke Apprenticeship programme that will facilitate the transfer of experienced workers’ knowledge and skills, offering young people, locally, a recognised qualification in this industry.
The Bridgwater & Taunton College Apprentice of the Year 2017 was awarded to Kiah Durham. Kiah has demonstrated remarkable progress and showed how perseverance and promotion of a positive life outlook can overcome challenges. Kiah was described by her employer as an absolute pleasure to support and work alongside.
Jason Gunningham, Assistant Principal for Land-based, Sport and Foundation Studies at Bridgwater & Taunton College, said,
‘This is a real highlight of the year and an opportunity to celebrate the success of so many apprentices from across the College. This year we received our highest number of nominations, with 2500 apprentices studying here at Bridgwater & Taunton College and 16 employers out of the 600 plus employers we work with.’
