Pupils find out what it’s like to be a student at Bridgwater & Taunton College | Bridgwater & Taunton College

From agriculture to health & social care, drama and dance, to plumbing and bricklaying, prospective students were able to choose a subject area and spend a dedicated morning with College tutors learning the specificities of each course.

Those based at the Taunton campus braved the elements and made it in for a successful morning exploring the campus and learning about their chosen subject area. Computing and IT attendees got to grips with coding and web design, whilst engineering pupils were introduced to 3D printing and robotics. One West Somerset Community College pupil said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the broad variety of activities that showed all aspects of engineering, from robotics to computer numerically controlled machinery.” It was lovely to see that the weather had not dampened their spirits and pupils came away enthused, and with a greater understanding of the campus and courses.

Thankfully Thursday brought fairer weather for the Bridgwater and Cannington campus tasters. At the Bridgwater campus, prospective students took part in a wide range of subjects, from the International Baccalaureate and A Levels, to barbering and bricklaying. One pupil who took part in the forensic science taster session praised the careful planning of the teaching staff and their helpful attitudes, and described the day as very useful and engaging.

Pupils who attended the Cannington campus had the opportunity to explore the College’s land-based provision, including animal and countryside management, equine studies and agriculture. Making the most of a break in the weather, prospective students interested in equine studies groomed and exercised the College horses, building on self-taught knowledge in a new and exciting way.

It was another successful morning and the College is looking forward to repeating taster sessions at the Bridgwater and Cannington campuses on 23 May. Click here to book a place or call 01278 441216.
