Laura Williams Awarded Highly Commended at the WorldSkillsUK Floristry Finals

Laura Williams, a Level 4 Floristry student at Bridgwater & Taunton College recently competed in the WorldSkills UK Floristry competition at the NEC, Birmingham.

Laura was one of only eight florists to get through to the final and had to produce five different designs for a Bridal Fashion Show. Flowers and sundries were supplied at the start of each day and the designs had to be completed within a set time frame.

On the final day of the competition the competitors attended an award ceremony and Laura had the honour of gaining a Highly Commended award.

Laura said,

'I am always striving to push myself outside my comfort zone and have entered a few competitions before entering WorldSkills. I have never been placed before, until now, but have learned so much from each experience.’

Jacqui Weaver, Course Leader said,

‘We are so proud of Laura’s achievement, the gravity of this competition is immense and Laura faced the challenge admirably. We encourage our students to explore various competitions throughout their time at College as it gives them invaluable opportunities to build their existing skills. We are currently preparing for the RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year competition heat in February 2018 at the Cannington campus, and wish Laura and her peers good luck in that as well.’
