Ruby Cresswell, a Floristry Lecturer at Bridgwater & Taunton College, has won a prestigious City & Guilds Medal for Excellence. Ruby is one of only 59 medallists nationally this year and has the opportunity to go forward for one of nine Lion Awards due to be announced in May.

A global programme, Medals for Excellence has now been running for over 100 years.

Ruby said,

“I am honoured to have won this award and feel very grateful to my tutors, Jacqui and Katherine for their guidance throughout my time with Bridgwater & Taunton College. Without them I would not have been able to produce the work necessary to be nominated for the Medal for Excellence. It is a huge boost to my confidence to know that all of my hard work paid off and will hopefully inspire other students to do the same.”

Ruby’s tutor, Jacqui Weaver, said,

“Ruby produced an exceptionally well presented portfolio to support her Level 3 Floristry practical work, the high standards evident in her portfolio meant she was an ideal candidate to put forward for this award. Ruby has since progressed into Teaching for the department and in December was promoted to Course Leader on the Level 2 Floristry course. The skills and knowledge she has gained during her time at our Cannington campus helped with her chosen career path.”
