High Achieving Apprenticeships
Not sure where an Apprenticeship can take you in your career? Long gone are the days where apprentices might have been seen as cheap labour. These days businesses are employing apprentices because they see the benefits they bring, and from an apprentice's point of view, there's no end to the career progression an Apprenticeship can take them.
Here's what Garth Young has to say about his Apprenticeship route:
I started as an adult Steel Fixing apprentice around four years ago. After I finished my Apprenticeship I worked as a Steel Fixer for over a year (on the Crossrail project in London) before being promoted to a Supervisor Chargehand in charge of around five guys. I am now working with BYLOR, doing the job of a Foreman, responsible for around 15-20 people in my pre-fab yard.
I have recently been involved in the interview assessment days for BYLOR Apprenticeships, held by Bridgwater & Taunton College at its Construction Skills & Innovation Centre (CSIC) in Cannington, and it’s been good to be involved in the process, which I once went through myself.
I have achieved my Site Supervisors' Safety Training Scheme and Level 3 ILM (Institute of Leadership & Management), and hope to continue to the Level 5 ILM and NVQ through Bridgwater & Taunton College. I think in the future it will be possible for me to progress on to management level.
I never went to university and wasn’t expecting to get this far in my career, but if you come here and do a good job you will get noticed and you will get put through the courses and training.
