Course Overview

Whilst studying the fascinating world of human behaviour, you will encounter many sensitive subjects including mental illness, extreme childhood neglect and animal research. You will study everything from electrocuting rats to Nazi death camps, improving your memory and learning how we treat phobias.

By the end of the course, you will understand why we cannot fully trust eyewitness testimony and why your first relationship with your primary caregiver is so important. You will also discover why children sometimes say the funniest things and how the ideas of Sigmund Freud are still influential today.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through written examinations, with regular internal assessment taking place as the course unfolds. Your final A Level exam will be made up of three exam papers covering the entire programme at the end of year two.

Progression Options

Each year, most A Level graduates progress to university with some choosing to pursue an interest in psychology. Many use the Psychology A Level to prove to admission tutors that they have a wide range of skills. A Level Psychology is especially useful as it straddles the boundary between science and the humanities, thus indicating the possession of skills in both areas.
