Our Apprentices are supported and guided through their work-based learning journey with the help of BTC’s sector specialist trainers and assessors. Working collaboratively with employers in the workplace to encourage and develop practical skills, knowledge and widen the Apprentice’s industry experience. The College’s BHS approved Equine Centre, 200 hectare farm, and large collection of domestic and exotic animals help provide a real hands-on experience for students on all of our animal care and management courses. We also have an extensive work placement network within the industry.
We have many Apprenticeships applicable across all businesses here.
We also have free Distance Learning courses suitable for all sectors here.
Our Facilities
The Centre is broken down into several specialist animal areas, including a nocturnal room that provides an insight into behavior comparisons with the animals kept in the diurnal (non-nocturnal) rooms. The exotic and amphibian areas house a range of snakes, lizards, tortoises, turtles, frogs, newts and toads. For those interested in fish we also have cold and tropical fish tanks.
The paddock areas are home to the llamas, sheep, goats and ponies. The farm enterprises include a high yielding dairy herd and state-of-the-art milking parlour, beef cattle, calf and replacement stock, sheep flock and breeding pigs.
Animal health checks can be carried out in our veterinary nursing room. This area is equipped with a range of veterinary equipment, including an x-ray machine, resuscitation and surgical equipment, providing an excellent learning resource for both vet nursing apprentices. The isolation room provides the opportunity for students to practice methods of isolation and barrier nursing techniques in a real-life environment.

How does an Apprenticeship Programme work?
How else can we help?
Although your business may belong primarily to the animal care sector, that’s unlikely to be its sole focus – you’ll probably have an accounts/HR department, general admin and customer service.
Increasing the productivity and efficiency of any of these areas could have a really positive impact on profitability, and an Apprenticeship programme is a really cost-effective way of doing that.
We offer a variety of different training solutions to support you with your business and our team will tailor your training requirements to your business needs.
