On the 6 March 2020, a group of student on the Level 3 Sport (Outdoor adventurous activities and education) course hosted a local primary school to the Cannington Outdoor Activity Centre for a morning of team building activities.
Thirty, local year 5 students from Cannington Primary school attended the event that included tasks such as go-kart building, river crossings and low ropes.
The students planned this event as part of their organising events units. They allocated set roles and responsibilities such as chairperson, secretary, media officer and instructors. They planned the event from start to finish without tutor support.
This was an outstanding event. I have not seen a group of students put so much attention to detail to the planning in a long time. Their efforts were clearly seen in the meetings in the build-up to the event and on the day they really excelled. Giving young students a taster of outdoor activities with an emphasis on teamwork and supporting others. The Bridgwater & Taunton College students delivered the activities in a safe manner whilst also making it fun and engaging for children. It’s great to see how much these students have developed as leaders over the two years studying at college.
Level 3 Sport Course Leader, Gareth Lewis.
