Five apprentices from Bridgwater & Taunton College representing EDF and the National College for Nuclear participated in the Civils Nuclear Showcase (CNS) Hackathon 2020 (#CNSHackathon), which was held in London. Collaborating and competing against other students, the apprentices were set the challenge to create innovative ideas that would enable future success for the nuclear sector.

The apprentices had to use all their skillsets to perform, including vital life skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving and leading in order to develop and create their final solutions. All the apprentices performed amazingly, however after two days of working under the microscope, George Barnes (EDF Degree Apprentice) and his team emerged as the winners.

EDF Apprentices who participated were: Alisha Gallagher (Project Control Apprentice); Gillian Ellis (Degree Apprentice); Genevieve Baker (Degree Apprentice); George Barns (Degree Apprentice); and Thomas Roach (Degree Apprentice).

Minister for Business and Industry, Nadhim Zahawi explained how it was fantastic to meet the participants of the CNS Hackathon and was highly inspired to talk through their innovative ideas for the future of the Nuclear sector.

A great success; well done to all involved!
