Since lockdown, Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Team BTC have been keeping their students and staff busy with coming up with lots of different challenges. These challenges have helped keep students engaged but also help with their physical and mental health.
In their latest challenge Team BTC tasked students and staff to accumulate the distance between John O’Groats to Lands End which would be a total of 1407KM, whilst also raising money for Love Musgrove. Students and staff could enter by sharing their daily exercise tracked by a fitness app of a walk, run or cycle via social media and tagging Team BTC in the post.
Team BTC Coach of the Year Gareth Lewis commented,
This was a great challenge for a great cause, which gave me the inspiration and motivation to get back exercising on my bike.
To complete this challenge took just 5 days, and over 100 submissions were received from people simply walking the dog, family cycles or cycling over 50KM in one go. Team BTC even received entries from past students and staff who relished the opportunity to get involved.
Special mention to Team BTC footballer Noah Kruszynski who completed over 100KM on his bike, whilst Team BTC Women’s footballer Jasmine Alexander completed over 50KM on foot.
Team BTC Footballer Olly Down said,
It was a great idea and everyone I spoke to who took part loved it. It helped me go further distances on my rides and I am already looking forward to the next challenge.
Team BTC Manager, Jamie Laird added,
It was great to hear such positive feedback from everyone who took part. We have been trying to keep students and staff engaged with us since we are unable to see everyone at the College during these unprecedented times. We hope that this along with other sport challenges are helping our community to stay motivated and active for the positive physical and mental health benefits.
Credit and a big thank you must go to our Netball coach Paige Pople who came up with the idea and also was instrumental in posting throughout the 5 days and keeping track of how many KM’s had been completed each day. We would also like to thank everyone who has donated towards our chosen charity Love Musgrove in such a challenging time.
Over the 5 days Team BTC managed to raise over £200 for Love Musgrove. If you would still like to donate please visit https://bit.ly/3g0oZ2q. To find out more about our next challenges, follow Team BTC’s social media.
