1st year Digital Media Design student, Emily Bradley, has been announced as a finalist in the 2020 Apps for Good Awards.

The awards are a celebration of the best Apps created by students nationally and provides young people opportunities to link up with top technology leaders from the world’s most prominent brands.

The awards shortlist hundreds of project entries, but only 15 are named finalists. Emily has been entered into the Global Innovators Category. Sponsored by Spotify, this category recognises young people who have used creativity, design and innovation to develop ideas to solve big problems across the globe.

The App, entitled ‘Space Bubble’ helps to keep your mental health on track with activities tailored to the user. It contains journals, virtual pets and places to go when you need an escape.

Emily says,

I came up with the idea of my product as mental health is very important to me and I feel like it doesn’t get recognised as much as it should and so many people are suffering in silence.

She wanted to create a mental health support method that could be accessed easily, and alongside product research and talking to teens currently suffering with mental health, she developed the Space Bubble app.

The app is free, easy to assess and interactive to help teens cope with everyday struggles. Within the app there are different features that are specific to different types of coping methods.

Emily comments,

I believe when it comes to mental health it’s hard to speak your mind and explain how you are really feeling and then you end up not saying anything to help yourself. Even though it’s just an app I believe that a tiny app can even make a difference for someone’s health to get better as all lives matter. Yes there are many mental health apps already out there but suffering from mental health myself they don’t seem to help me. So I wanted to develop an app coming from someone who experiences mental health everyday to try and help others to get better.
