The Walled Gardens of Cannington opened its doors on Monday for a children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent.
CLIC Sargent is one of the UK’s leading cancer charities for children, young people and their families. Its staff provide specialist support across the country, including families in Somerset. CLIC Sargent supports people from diagnosis onwards and aims to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment and, in some cases, bereavement.
Many of the children and families who receive support from charity CLIC have been unable to leave home and visit attractions since March due to shielding during the Covid-19 pandemic.
A member of the group contacted the Walled Gardens via Facebook asking if the charity could visit privately to ensure the children’s safety.
Delighted to be asked, the Walled Gardens of Cannington opened its doors just for the families on August Bank Holiday Monday and welcomed the parents and children free of charge.
Walled Garden’s manager, Aymeric says:
Myself and the Walled Gardens team were so pleased to be able to offer these families free private entry to the gardens. The children and adults had a great time, and it was a pleasure to be able to give them this experience in a safe way.
The parents and children also enjoyed light snack and drinks, which are currently being served outside on the patio.
Tash Larcombe, whose son is currently undergoing treatment for Leukaemia, comments:
I would like to give my upmost thanks to the Walled Gardens of Cannington. It was so good of you to do this for us. It’s not often we get out and was lovely to have some time with other families in our situation. I really can’t thank you enough and hope to visit again soon.
