BTC’s Construction Skills & Innovation Centre was pleased to welcome back John Sisk & Son Ltd to their popular Construction Live! project, but this time it was with a difference!
SISK’s group of learners who attend Construction Live! are part of the company’s Excelerate programme – their three-year graduate development programme for graduates of Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Services or Commercial/Quantity Surveying.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the group this time had to be split in two – with one half working from Dublin, and the other in attendance at the centre in Cannington.
The theory part of the project was broadcast live via TEAMS, with each group working on the practical elements of the project in their geographical location.
“Although processes had to be different this time, it demonstrates BTC’s work with the sector is continuing efficiently and most importantly, effectively”, says BTC’s Head of Infrastructure Projects, Simon Brewer.
The graduates were learning about concrete pours, quality assurance, and setting out, with theory and hands-on training. Because Construction Live! is a unique experiential programme, specifically designed to provide a hands-on experience of planning, managing and implementing a range of construction projects in a safe, yet ‘live’ construction environment, it offers delegates the opportunity to experience what it is like to work on a construction site, providing the practical wisdom that only such an experiential event can.
Construction Live! takes place at BTC’s Construction Skills & Innovation Centre, which replicates a real-life construction site, with industry-standard plant, machinery and equipment, and enables construction site behaviours and standards to be taught alongside specific technical knowledge and skills.
