Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) Steel Fixing apprentice Stacey Sowden, who is employed by Bylor and works on the HPC project, has won the HPC Rising Star award. The award, which recognises outstanding results and great potential, was won by Stacey from a group of 30 nominations, and in which “competition was intense”.

“Stacey is a highly respected member of the team”, described the event’s compere. “Working in a traditionally male dominated physical role, Stacey is helping to change perceptions and making a huge impact. Her colleagues praise her ability to empower the apprentices, and see true leadership potential in her.”

Stacey has led an inspiring life, playing international football plus having a career in management, being a mum, and retraining as a Steel Fixer with BTC and Bylor on Europe’s largest construction site – Hinkley Point C.

Accepting her award, Stacey said: “It’s fantastic. I never thought I’d win this award. Thanks to everyone on the project and all the opportunities”.

For her Apprenticeship, Stacey has learnt with specialist instructors and trainers at the College’s Construction Skills and Innovation Centre in Cannington, Somerset, with its dedicated Steel Fixing Arena. From everyone at BTC – well done Stacey!
