Bridgwater & Taunton Colleges Level 2 Forestry and Arboriculture students attended a day of technical workshops at Sorbus International.

Students had the opportunity to test out specialist ropes and harnesses on the indoor climbing wall, as well as attend a number of interactive workshops where they were able to get their hands on and try out the latest tech for internal tree decay detection.

It is imperative for students to gain technical level skills for their own knowledge, safety and wellbeing in this industry. Receiving specialist training towards industry recognised certificates of competency, supports the learners progression into industry related employment.

Dan Body, L2 Forestry and Arboriculture student said,

It was fantastic to see the equipment in action. Being able to try it out ourselves made it even better and helped us get our heads around how it actually worked. Training at BTC to become an arborist was the right decision for me and days like this reinforces my enthusiasm to make a career for myself in the industry.

Mike Cullen, Course leader for Forestry and Arboriculture said,

Over the years we have forged exceptionally strong links with industry. In particular, we are very privileged to have had the support of the amazing team at Sorbus International over the past 20+ years. Taking students out of the classroom and into specialist workshops like this enhances both their learning and their College experience.

The Level 2 Technical Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture covers a broad range of topics including Tree Felling and Ground Operations, Aerial Tree Operations, Ecology of Woodlands, Tree Identification and Tree Pests and Diseases.
