There was a dramatic finale to the latest Men’s 2 Football fixture for the second game in a row.

BTC Men’s 2 team were playing their return fixture against Gloucester AFC after previously meeting them for the first game of the season. BTC started the game extremely well, but unable to convert the numerous good chances that they created.

At 30 mins, a good ball into the box to striker Tom Stone led to a great first touch that took him away from his defender. He was brought down, and a penalty kick was correctly awarded. Cameron Byrom, who was returning from injury, stepped up to give BTC the lead. Just before half time BTC made it 2-0 from a deep cross to the back post from George Fretwell, who found Harry Mcinnes to head it home to give BTC a two-goal advantage at half time.

After a comfortable first half, it was a different story in the second. Gloucester came out the blocks very fast. After a good spell of possession, they got a goal back from a corner. Shortly after, a mistake at the back allowed the Gloucester number 9 to run through 1v1 with Charlie Hawkins and make it 2-2.

For the next 30 mins, the game was very evenly contested, and, on 70 mins, Tom Stone, who was a constant threat throughout the game, won another penalty. This time, he stepped up to take it himself, however the Gloucester keeper made a smart save down to his right to keep the score at 2-2.

With both sides pushing for the win, it was Gloucester who got the third, with another mistake at the back allowing a cross to come in. Gloucester now had what seemed to be the match winner. With virtually the last attack of the game, the ball was put out wide to Leo James, who was outstanding after coming on at half time, got a yard of space and whipped a lovely ball in for Olly Chubb to head home for the equaliser, much to the excitement of everyone watching.

Men’s and Women’s Football are both being offered as Sport Development Days this year. If you are in year 10 or 11 at school and would like to take part, visit our Sport Development Days page to find out more.
