Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC)’s Trampolining team has qualified for the Schools & Colleges National finals, with two members also gaining silver and bronze as individuals.
The team – made up of Hope Jones, Emily Moule, Tiffany Onojaife and Ana Sofia Lourenco Dias – achieved bronze at last week’s Southern Zonals, while Hope Jones also won bronze as an individual. Jayme Love took silver as an individual in the U19 Girls Elite CAT2.
This built on earlier success at the South West heat last year, where the team won the U19 Girls Intermediate title. Hope Jones also took gold at the earlier event to become South West Champion in the U19s Intermediate category, while Emily Moule won the bronze. Jayme Love came first in the U19 DIS CAT2 competition.
The team is captained by Level 3 Business student Hope Jones. The former Haygrove School pupil said
We’ve worked really well as a team and I’m really proud of all of us. Achieving bronze as a team has given us a lot of confidence. Being part of Team BTC motivates us, as does Helen, our coach. Sometimes we don’t believe that we’re ready, but she makes us see how good we can be. She’s the best coach ever!
Team BTC trampolining coach Helen Peregrine-Wheller said
This event was part of the first round of competitions we’ve had for two years as a result of the Covid pandemic, so the students have done really well. Training has also been disrupted, so for Hope, Jayme, Emily, Tiffany and Ana, who only joined the team this year, to do so well is something to be proud of. It was an extremely successful day against some very strong competitors.
The Schools and Colleges National Trampolining finals will take place next month in Macclesfield. To find our more about Sport at BTC, visit our Sport at BTC page, or, if you are in year 10 or 11, register for a free Sport Development Day.
